Zehra Tamkan: Partner

Zehra is our senior lawyer and partner at Connaughts. She qualified as a solicitor in 2016 and joined Connaughts in 2017. She provides a comprehensive and versatile service to her clients. Currently, Zehra advises on areas such as Dispute Resolution, Family Law and Immigration Law.

Immigration

Zehra has over 14 years’ immigration experience. She provides comprehensive support on a wide range of personal and business immigration matters. For her private clients, Zehra assists them with obtaining Spousal/Fiancé visas, Visitor Visas, Ancestry and Nationality applications. Zehra has a high success rate of application grants and consistently obtains instructions from returning clients.

Zehra also has a vast amount of experience in asylum law and has represented victims of torture. She has achieved successful outcomes for clients at the pre action stage against the Home Office, as well as in court. She has protected her clients through the tenures of many Home Secretaries and continues to be a vanguard of human rights.

Zehra specializes in appeals and judicial review related cases. She is an articulate negotiator and being able to settle with Home Office without the need for the full hearing in most of her cases. She works for a number of corporate immigration clients, assisting in their day-to-day HR immigration issues and in the recruitment of non-EEA nationals.

Zehra advises on and accepts instructions in relation to business immigration matters. She regularly works with investors, entrepreneurs, and their advisors to get corporate clients the best possible results. She currently focuses on Skilled Worker visas, obtaining Sponsor Licenses for companies of all sizes, Intra Company Transfer and indefinite leave to remain applications.

In her spare time, Zehra enjoys hiking, baking and gardening. Zehra is also fluent in English and Turkish.

Family Law

Zehra is a highly skilled family lawyer and advises on all aspects of private family law. She accepts instructions in relation to various matters including (but not limited to) complex financial disputes following separation, intricate child arrangement matters, spousal maintenance, business assets, pension & proceedings under Schedule 1 Children At 1989 and injunctive applications.

Zehra is known for her tactical approach to cases and likes to push boundaries to find a solution for her clients when they are dealing with a difficult time in their life. She understands how emotionally challenging the process of separation can be. Her strengths lie in her early analysis of a case and in making arguments that lead to an early settlement.

Zehra has a special interest in matters involving children. She advises her clients in private children matters including but not limited to applications for special guardianship, applications for parental responsibility, applications under section 8 of the Children Act 1989 (i.e. where a child is to live and how often they have contact with the other parent) and prohibited steps orders. She has also assisted her clients in matters involving domestic violence (i.e. applications for non-molestation and occupation orders) and parental conflict and/or cases where serious allegations were raised. She has been successfully representing parents in private children matters where allegations of misuse of substance had been made against them by other parents.

Zehra has a caring, sympathetic and considerate approach to her clients. She likes to listen to her clients in detail and she has thorough attention to detail. She is known to be a strategic thinker and provides constructive and pragmatic advice to achieve her client’s goals and is highly capable of using facts of each unique case to secure the best outcomes for those she represents.

Dispute Resolution & Litigation

Zehra has extensive experience as a general litigator with a focus on complex financial disputes. She is widely recognized for her skills and acts for both claimants and defendants in a range of sectors.

Zehra advises clients on civil and commercial disputes, including those arising from breach of contract. She also regularly obtains a variety of interim remedies for her clients, including injunctions, security for costs and disclosure orders. Zehra also has experience acting for clients in relation to media related litigation such as defamation and libel.

Zehra has a track record of achieving successful outcomes for her clients, both in and out of court. She has extensive experience in conducting litigation at all levels, as well as in mediation. Zehra’s client base consists of individuals and companies of all sizes. She understands that litigation for clients can be a stressful and distressing process. Zehra therefore works hard to support her clients and ensure they have a realistic view of their case, whether as claimant or defendant to enable them to make commercial and pragmatic decisions.
